Sixty-Six Fire burns 30 acres, forces evacuations

The Sixty-Six Fire has burned at least 30 acres and has forced mandatory evacuations near Carnuel. Several structures have been impacted by this fire, and at least one home has burned.

The fire is now burning on both sides of I-40. Traffic is closed in both directions on I-40 and Route 66, between Central Ave. SE and Tramway Blvd. SE. No one is being allowed into the area. People who have been evacuated from the area are being asked to go to Albuquerque, until conditions improve in the area.

A spokesman for Bernalillo County Fire says crews from Bernalillo County and Albuquerque Fire and Rescue are on the scene. State and U.S. Forestry crews have also arrived at the scene and are providing ground and air support.

A health alert has been issued for Albuquerque and Bernalillo County until 9 am Friday morning, due to smoke in the area.
