At Gila National Forest
Join New Mexico Wild in celebrating Public Lands Day with a community hike along the Tadpole Ridge Trail, a scenic route through the Pinos Altos Range. This trail passes through an Inventoried Roadless Area—one of several land designations currently under threat. Along the way, we will discuss the challenges facing our nation’s public lands and explore how we can work together to ensure their protection for generations to come.
Hike Details: This is a moderate 7-mile round-trip hike with approximately 1,400 feet of elevation gain (mostly uphill on the way in). It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Gila, learn more about the threats to our wild places, and connect with others who share a commitment to protecting our public lands.
What to bring: Lunch, plenty of water, snacks, sun protection (layers, sunscreen, hat), and sturdy footwear appropriate for hiking on uneven terrain.
