Latino Conservation Week 2021: Rio Pecos Cleanup

24Jul2021

From 9:30 a.m.

Join New Mexico Wild Pecos Wilderness Rangers Jesse Furr, Zack Bumgarner, Isa Nellos, and Raven Zellers for a Rio Pecos Cleanup on Saturday, July 24 at 9:30 a.m. This event is part of our celebration of Latino Conservation Week 2021!

Meet at Upper Dalton Fishing Access about 6.5 miles north of the Village of Pecos along NM-63. Parking is on the east (right) side of the road. We'll give an informal ~30-minute safety and Leave No Trace talk and describe the scope of various cleanup locations along the Rio Pecos and accessible tributaries. We will also give short background about Wild and Scenic River Designation if folks are interested (protected section is from Terrero to headwaters in the Wilderness).

We will distribute trash bags, gloves, and learning materials, and lend out hi-vis vests and grabbers from RS tool cache. We ask that folks work in small groups and are mindful of roads and respectful of other visitors.

Participants will return equipment and trash bags to our location at Upper Dalton before heading home or continuing to recreate in the area.
