From 4:30 p.m
At Paseo de la Mesa trailhead- Albuquerque
Join NM Wild and the Dark Sky New Mexico chapter for a two-part dark skies event exploring the importance of Public Lands and Wilderness Areas for preserving dark skies and supporting astronomical observations.
Part 1 is a short (~2-mile) walk at the edge of Albuquerque, where we’ll learn about the city’s light ordinances and how urban lighting affects our night skies. RSVP is required to attend.
Part 2 is a ~2.2-mile hike through the Ojito Wilderness, followed by astronomical viewing. We’ll compare the two locations and experience the contrast firsthand. Both events will be led by Derek Wallentinsen, a retired National Park ranger and dark sky enthusiast. Register for Part 2 here.
Attendance at both parts is not required, but it is highly encouraged.
