Advanced Wildlands Monitoring Excursion
At Continental Divide Wilderness Study Area
Join New Mexico Wild for an advanced Wildlands Monitoring excursion to the Continental Divide Wilderness Study Area, located in the remote northeastern corner of the Gila Region, just north of the Black Range. This area is known for its rolling grasslands, open skies, and wildlife including elk and pronghorn antelope.
In recent years, user-created OHV routes and vehicle incursions have impacted the area’s wild character. This trip will focus on documenting those impacts and completing ongoing data collection efforts.
This is a 5-day, self-supported trip intended for experienced Defenders, campers, and data collectors. Participants should be prepared for long days of hiking and driving, and for being fully self-sufficient in both camping and field work. Due to weather-related cancellations earlier this year, this extended trip will help us make up lost time and complete remaining monitoring goals.
Participants may join for all or part of the trip.

Continental Divide Wilderness Study Area (Gila Region, north of the Black Range; exact location to be shared with participants)
