Standing with Science: New Mexico Wild’s Endorsement of the SWAP Update

New Mexico Wild is proud to share our formal comment letter to the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish in support of the updated State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP).

In this letter, we highlight the critically important role this science-based framework will play in safeguarding New Mexico’s rich wildlife heritage, over 6,000 documented species, including rare, imperiled, and keystone species. We applaud the inclusion of pollinators and non-game invertebrates alongside the Department’s commitment to stewarding 505 Species of Greatest Conservation Need, bolstered by new funding tools and federal grant opportunities. The letter also celebrates the passage of Senate Bill 5 and a $9 million investment in holistic wildlife stewardship, building on legacy Land of Enchantment funding to support long-term conservation success. Authored by staff attorney Sally Paez and endorsed by New Mexico Wild, this letter reflects our deep engagement in the SWAP revision process to ensure thriving wildlife for current and future generations.
