Capitan Peak Trail Clearing Project – Overnight

10Jun2023
11Jun2023

Join us as we show this trail some love and improve access to the Capitan Mountains Wilderness!

From 9:00 am

At Capitan Mountains Wilderness

New Mexico Wild is taking the lead on clearing up the Capitan Peak trail, a rugged trail leading to the crest of the Capitan Mountain Wilderness. This trail has been difficult to navigate due to recent fire damage and logs down in the trail.

On June 10th, we will convene at the Smokey Bear Ranger Station at 9 am to distribute tools and PPE, and discuss safety protocols. From there, we'll head to Pine Lodge and Capitan Peak Trailhead where we will begin working up the trail, sawing out logs along the way. We will camp near the trailhead on the night of June 10th. We will then work the following day for a half day.

Volunteers will need to bring work gloves, sturdy work boots, camping equipment, a day pack, and their own food aside from a lunch on June 10th provided by New Mexico Wild Rangers. Rangers will also provide water, PPE, tools, and training for this project.
