THE PLACE: The BLM Wild Rivers Recreation Area, a couple of miles north of Questa, New Mexico.

THE PROJECT: We are going to do some fly fishing. Greg McReynolds, the state coordinator of Trout Unlimited, is going to take us to one of his favorite “fishin’ holes.” We will be staying at the Big Arsenic campgrounds and hiking down to the best spots to fish, depending on conditions.

Note: The Wild Rivers Recreation Area allows visitors to experience the beauty of two national Wild and Scenic Rivers protected by Congress. Here, the Rio Grande and Red River are preserved in their natural, free-flowing state. The canyon ecosystem descends 800 feet from rim to river, creating a unique diversity in plant and animal life. Ancient piñon and juniper forests are home to 500-year-old trees.

MEALS: With any luck, we will have fresh trout for dinner Saturday. If not, there will be a Dutch oven dinner. Continental breakfast Saturday morning.

MAXIMUM PARTICIPANTS: 10−15
