Event Description

NMWA Executive Director Stephen Capra will lead the hike. This time he promises! This spectacular hike is a true test of endurance. We will start on the south end and head north, then turn around and reverse the trek. This will be a 50-mile hike, tough and fast-paced. You are welcome to join for sections of the hike or for the entire length. We will begin the hike at 5:00 am, and the hike will take close to 22 hours to complete. We will eat along the way and take a short break at the end of the first section. We will be hiking with headlamps on a full moon night. This is not for beginners, and we will hold a special evening class four months beforehand to prep for this endurance hike.

THE PLACE: We will hike the length of the Sandia Mountains and experience the beauty of wildflowers and enjoy great views in every direction. The evening will show a beautiful moon and a wild spirit. This hike remains a serious test of will.

To do this will require training by everyone involved. It is a long hike with dramatic elevation gains and losses. It is perhaps more of a mental test than a physical one, so it is important to be mentally prepared as well.

Warning: This is a test of endurance, with dramatic elevation gains and losses. It will require being in peak physical condition.
