DATE: June 23 – 26, 2010
THE PLACE: We will have the use of Beatty’s Cabin (yes, you will have the option of sleeping indoors), Pecos Wilderness, Santa Fe National Forest.
THE PROJECT: Wilderness Stewardship–campsite inventories and invasive plant species inventories.
Craig will be at Beatty’s Wednesday through Sunday night. You will have the option of coming for a one-night stay or for all three. We will then stage from Beatty’s cabin to cover the central portion of the Pecos Wilderness. Some adopted trails may require an overnight stay.
Requirements: Fitness/Experience Level
You must be able to carry a backpack weighing 30 – 45 pounds over moderate to difficult terrain. Elevation changes are common. The hike to Beatty’s Cabin is 6 miles one way and a 1500-foot gain in elevation. 12 miles total backpacking and another 10 to 20 on day hikes.
A moderate or greater level of fitness and backpacking experience is required.
MEALS: A hot Dutch oven dinner will be served Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights at Beatty’s cabin.

DRIVING DISTANCE: Iron Gate campground is 30 minutes north of the town of Pecos, New Mexico.
