This Saturday, the State Game Commission is holding a public meeting to discuss several matters of grave import to wildlife in New Mexico. Public comment will be elicited throughout the meeting. We encourage everyone to attend and voice support for wildlife preservation.
The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish is proposing an 80% increase in the bear kill limit for the state. Also proposed is a spring bear hunt which might put mothers with cubs at greater risk. On the other hand, the State Game Commission is considering changing trapping rules to conform to Governor Richardson’s recent moratorium on wolf traps in the Blue Range Wolf Recovery Area.
What: Public comment hearing on proposed changes to hunting season and license rules for bears, cougar, pronghorn antelope and deer
