In June 2019, it was reported that Comexico, LLC, the Colorado subsidiary of Australian corporation New World Cobalt, is planning to drill up to 30 holes 500-4,000 feet-deep to determine if the area is adequate for a full-blown mine.
The region is still recovering from a previous mining operation that killed over 90,000 trout and cost taxpayers $28 million.
