We will hike into the heart of the Petaca Pinta Wilderness Study Area. The hike will start by traversing an open flood plain for half a mile. We will then enter a “bowl” surrounded by towering rock features and colorful bluffs. Wildlife tracks are often seen in this bowl, harden in the clay soil. From here we will skirt out of the bowl and begin to be afforded dramatic views of the entire Petaca Pinta country, as well as the Sandia Mountains and Mountain Taylor.
