The Gila National Forest –birthplace of Wilderness and home of the Mexican wolf–is in grave danger of being compromised by unregulated motorized recreation.
In the Gila Travel Management Plan Draft Environmental Impact Statement, released January 7, The Forest Service proposed route closures that will protect fragile watersheds including the Gila and San Francisco Rivers–and endangered wildlife habitat.
Congressman Steve Pearce has mobilized his base in southern New Mexico to oppose the proposed road closures– even though the Gila will remain open to recreation, including OHV use on approved roads.
Donate online and help us protect the Gila and the San Francisco River for future generations.
Remember: Steve Pearce has tried to pass legislation to sell off our public lands– so hunters, anglers, ranchers, and recreationists, beware.
