Don’t Miss “Lonely Are The Brave” March 16th!

LONELY ARE THE BRAVE

MARCH 16, 7-9 PM
GUILD CINEMA
3405 CENTRAL AVE. NE

NM-Wild’s 2011 Winter Film series ends with a benefit screening of Lonely Are the Brave and an Evening with Jack Loeffler and Dave Foreman on March 16, Wednesday, at 7 PM at the Guild Cinema in Albuquerque.

This 1962 film was made in Albuquerque, using the surrounding Sandia mountains as a dramatic landscape for a mythic struggle between the “last cowboy,” Jack Burns [played by Kirk Douglas], and the encroaching modern world. It is considered one of the 10 greatest westerns ever made.

Lonely Are the Brave is based on Ed Abbey’s novel, The Brave Cowboy. This event includes presentations by Santa Fe-based aural historian, Jack Loeffler, on the Life and Times of Ed Abbey. Jack Loeffler is considered a “national treasure,” and received the New Mexico Governor’s award for Excellence in the Arts in 2008. His book “Adventures with Ed: A portrait of Abbey,” recounts his experiences with iconic environmental writer Ed Abbey.  Dave Foreman, founder of the Rewilding Institute, will describe Albuquerque in the early 1960’s.

Admission is free, donations accepted. Advance tickets are available at the Guild Cinema box office or La Montanita Food Coop in Nob Hill after March 1. For further info: contact Roger at 843-8696 X104.
