Pecos Wilderness Stewardship – Training

Make us part of your summer hiking plan!

We are looking for volunteers to adopt trails in the Pecos Wilderness.

This project can be done on your own time, with the flexibility to take into account your busy schedule. Plus, it allows you to get out and give back to the land, our cherished Wilderness!

Wilderness Stewardship Challenge

By 2014 the Forest Service wants to have a baseline established in Wilderness, so in the future they will be able to determine how well they are doing in their role as Wilderness managers. In 2010, we will help them in 2 of their 8 tasks, campsite inventories and invasive plant species inventories.

We will do training in Santa Fe at the offices of the Forest Service on May 22 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Their address is: 11 Forest Lane, just off the 599 bypass east from I-40.

Agenda
9:00 to 12:00 – How to use the Trimble GPS unit
12:00 to 1:00 –  Lunch
1:00 to 5:00 – Field work; How to do a campsite assessment and indentifying invasive plant species.

After the training you will adopt one of the available trails in the Pecos Wilderness and have 60 days to accomplish the inventories. Let’s work with the Forest Service to make this a great success and at the same time enjoy the wilderness with a purpose.

Many thanks for your efforts!

Thank you for visiting! Come back soon...
