This is a fundraiser for the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, with proceeds going directly to our wilderness campaign fund. The Executive Director of the Alliance, Stephen Capra, will lead the hike. This spectacular hike is a true test of endurance. We will start on the south end and head north, then turn around and reverse the trek. This will be a fifty-mile hike. It will be tough and fast-paced. You are welcome to join for sections of the hike or for the entire length. We will begin the hike at 5 AM and the hike will take close to twenty-two hours to complete. We will be hiking on a full moon night with headlamps. This is not for beginners, and we will hold a special evening class four months beforehand to prep for this endurance hike. We are asking that you take a pledge form and get friends or businesses to pledge two, five or ten dollars for each mile you hike. We will provide food, which will include sandwiches, Power Bars, and beverages, that will be available at stations set up at the tram and the north end of the hike.
You will hike the length of the Sandia Mountains and experience the beauty of wildflowers and enjoy great views in every direction. The evening will show a beautiful moon and a wild spirit. But this remains a test of will.
Warning: This is a test of endurance, with serious elevation gains and losses. It will require being in peak physical condition.
There is a $15 charge for participation, but those who finish will be given a special commemorative T-shirt and special gifts from corporate sponsors.
Maximum participants: 15
Hiking Distance: 50 miles
